Privacy Policy and Terms

Free Daily Motivation is operated by Miguel Macedo Parente, who is responsible for the personal data described here. This policy covers our website and any Free Daily Motivation app that displays the same service.

You can browse quotes without an account. Signing in lets you save favorites. Optional analytics and daily quote notifications have separate choices.

1. Information we use

  • Accounts: Clerk handles sign-in and the account information needed for your chosen sign-in method. Our app database in Neon stores your Clerk account identifier, an internal user identifier, and your verified primary email address when available. Your password is not stored in our app database.
  • Favorites: We store the quotes you like against your account, so you can revisit and remove them. The site also displays total like counts for quotes.
  • Browser preferences: Your theme and analytics choice are stored on your browser. Category selections and author-search text are used to show relevant quotes; we do not save them as account preferences.
  • Optional usage analytics: If you accept analytics, Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics measure visits and interactions. Google Tag Manager loads and manages analytics tags. Events can include page navigation, category selections, quote actions such as liking, copying or sharing, and theme or sign-in interactions. Providers may process browser and device information, referring pages, approximate location, and online identifiers. Google Analytics data should not be treated as wholly anonymous merely because it does not contain your name.
  • Notifications: OneSignal processes browser or device information, push subscription identifiers, permission status, and delivery or interaction information to support optional daily quotes. When you visit while signed in, we use a separate random notification identifier to link your browser subscription to your account. For personalized delivery, OneSignal receives the selected quote text and author, or a reminder to save favorites. We do not send your email address or Clerk account identifier for this linkage. The service loads independently of analytics consent; receiving notifications requires your browser or device permission.
  • Technical and security information: Hosting and authentication services process requests and related technical information, which may include IP addresses and browser details. Our app also uses security counters to limit abusive requests and operational records to avoid sending duplicate daily notifications.
  • Contact requests: If you contact us through LinkedIn, we use the information you provide to respond and, when necessary, verify a privacy request.

2. Why we use this information

We use account identifiers and favorites to provide your saved collection, browser preferences to remember your choices, technical information to run and protect the service, optional analytics to understand usage, and notification information to deliver quotes you have opted to receive.

Where European data protection law applies, our legal bases are providing the account features you request (performance of a contract), consent for optional analytics and push notifications, and our legitimate interests in operating a reliable service, preventing abuse, and responding to inquiries. We may also process information where needed to meet legal obligations.

Browsing does not require account information, but saving favorites requires sign-in. Declining optional analytics does not prevent you from browsing or saving favorites. We do not use your personal data to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

3. Service providers and sharing

We use the following providers for the purposes described above:

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information for marketing purposes. We may disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect the service, our rights, or people’s safety.

If you follow a social link, contact us on LinkedIn, or choose a destination in your device’s sharing menu, that service handles the information you send under its own policies. Copying a quote uses your clipboard; sharing uses your device’s sharing options or copies the quote when sharing is unavailable.

4. Cookies, analytics, and notifications

Essential sign-in storage and your browser preferences are separate from optional analytics. Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Vercel Web Analytics stay off unless you accept analytics. You can reject or withdraw that choice using Cookies in the desktop footer or mobile bottom bar, or the button below.

Your analytics choice applies to the browser where you make it. Withdrawal stops future optional measurement and reloads the page to unload analytics tools; it does not erase data already sent. See our Cookie Policy for storage details and controls.

Daily quote notifications are optional and depend on browser and device support. Manage them using the notification bell where available or your browser’s site permissions. Accepting analytics does not subscribe you to notifications, and rejecting analytics does not cancel an existing subscription. The morning general quote continues on its shared schedule. Subscribed, linked accounts can also receive one quote from their own favorites each day at 18:00 Europe/Madrid, or a reminder to add favorites if none are saved. The app does not offer a personal delivery-time or frequency setting.

Signing out unlinks this browser from your account but does not cancel its general quote subscription. To stop all push notifications on this browser, use the notification controls or browser site permissions. Messages already delivered or queued may still appear.

5. Retention and deletion

We keep account records and favorites to provide your account and saved collection. You can remove individual favorites by unliking them. For removal of your account and associated app data, contact us through LinkedIn. Signing out or clearing cookies does not delete those records.

Deleting a sign-in account alone does not automatically delete the associated records in our app database. Please contact us for a deletion request that covers both your sign-in account and your saved app data. We may need to verify that the account belongs to you before acting on the request.

We keep the account-to-notification link while the app account exists. Afternoon campaign records, including the selected quote or reminder, are cleared after 35 days by the daily campaign job. OneSignal applies its own retention to notification records.

Analytics records follow the retention settings of the relevant service. Technical logs and backups follow the hosting, database, and authentication providers’ retention settings and backup cycles. Retention depends on the purpose of the records, the time needed to investigate technical or security issues, and any applicable legal obligations. Withdrawing analytics or notification permission does not by itself delete historical records.

We handle deletion requests under applicable law. Where information must be retained for a legal obligation or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims, we explain the reason in our response. Backup copies may remain until the relevant backup cycle expires.

6. Your privacy rights

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or a portable copy of your personal data. You may also object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

Use the contact details below to make a request. We respond within the time limits required by applicable law and explain any permitted extension or reason we cannot fulfill a request. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Security

The website uses HTTPS. Clerk manages authentication, and our server checks authentication and authorization for account-specific operations such as accessing or changing favorites. We also use request validation and rate limits to help protect the service.

No online service or storage system can guarantee absolute security. Keep your sign-in details secure and contact us if you believe your account or data has been compromised.

8. International processing

Our service providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States and other countries where they operate. Their privacy notices explain their international processing and transfer safeguards. Where applicable law requires safeguards for a transfer, these may include an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses under the relevant provider agreement. Contact us for information about safeguards relevant to your data.

9. Children’s privacy

The service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Where local law requires parental authorization at a higher age, that requirement also applies.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal data without the required authorization, contact us so we can investigate and arrange appropriate removal.

10. Terms of use

  • Use the service lawfully. Do not attempt to access other people’s accounts or private data, bypass security controls, or interfere with the service.
  • You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure. An account is needed to save favorites; browsing quotes is available without one.
  • Quotes are provided for inspiration and general information. We do not guarantee their accuracy, attribution, or suitability for a particular use. They are not professional advice.
  • Quotations and other third-party material may be subject to the rights of their respective owners. Copying or sharing tools do not grant additional rights to reuse that material. Check any permissions needed for your intended use, and contact us about attribution or rights concerns.
  • Features may change, be suspended, or become unavailable. Notifications depend on third-party services and device settings, so delivery at a particular time is not guaranteed.
  • The service is provided as available. Any limitation of responsibility applies only to the extent permitted by law; nothing in these terms excludes liability or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

11. Changes to this policy and these terms

We update this page when the service or our practices change and show the revision date at the top. Where a change requires additional notice or consent under applicable law, we provide that notice or request consent.
